I simply like to share sewing techniques and information with others that are interested in sewing. Other times it is request from others that cause me to demonstrate a technique. Often I will fire up the camera to capture a technique when I am working on a project. If you have any request then message me. I'll be happy to consider it.

I had to soak it with a Heavy Duty Degreaser spray 3 times. After that I greased and oiled it. Follow along and I test it for the first time to see if it will sew.
Industrial Cover Stitch Machine Binder Demo

Drafting a Pocket and Cutting out the Shorts Pattern

In this video we pick up where we left off drafting the shorts pattern. First, we draft the pocket. First, use the side seam side to draft your pocket. In my case I used the crotch seam because the hip curves where nearly identical. The proper way is to use the side seam. It will allow you to make much bigger pockets, which were not required with this small person. I will also true up the patte...

Great tutorial Kevin, I bought this machine a couple of years ago but couldn't take to it. But after having a few classes and watching your tutorial my confidence has grown and I'm sewing practically every day.
I glad it was helpful!
Can you help me, please? Why does the needle thread hold in the bobbin case?
Try this first: ruclips.net/video/8TPB2yzw-1Y/видео.htmlsi=586lOHoPB-ADP-Gm
Hi Kevin I am a fan watching your video I love sewing I have a heavy duty singer sewing machine the bobbin thread is very loosen birdnest how can I fix it on my own I need your help
With your foot down pull on the thread through the needle. If the tension is correct the needle should bend slightly while the thread passing through the eye of the needle. If this is good then we need to look at what is going on with the bobbin tension. Here is a link to a video I created on how to do this: ruclips.net/video/8TPB2yzw-1Y/видео.htmlsi=0m7JrIa6EkeYlxsG
That's the problem with computerized machines. I have the 4423 and it even goes through few layers of 3-4 oz leather with no problem.
Yes, I've demonstrated this fact in my videos over the years.
This is so great! Thank you! But now my feeder dogs get stuck down. I can go into the bottom and pop the gear back to release them, but then they get stuck down again. I think I messed something up while I was in there fixing the bobbin.
There is a switch on the bottom back side of the machine that lowers the feed dogs. Make sure it isn't set to the down position.
@kevinsews I know about the switch :) the switch does nothing in either position, as the feeders are stuck. I'm just going to open it up again and try to find what's going on. Thanks anyway!
@@ArlanyaJewels ok I will take a look at it over the next few days. Keep us posted on what you find. BTW, did you download the service manual.
@@ArlanyaJewels Okay, download the service manual and look at section 3-15 Feed-dog height section. Hopefully, this will show you the area to get started.
@@kevinsews Thanks so much!
Thank you Could you by chance show the needle bar clap you adjust? In the manual there’s an upper one that my machine doesn’t seem to have. I’ve gotten it working though more or less, but have noticed since correcting the timing, my tension wheel has to be substantially higher. Before I’d regularly use it around 5, and. Im having to use it almost fully maxed out around 7/8. Is there a way to internally adjust the tensioning?
See this video I created on this subject: ruclips.net/video/ddFcH5lnnjY/видео.html

Kevin, thanks so much for this video explaining how to slow down a singer foot pedal. Although we have 220v in India and i have an 8280 model. I had to turn the speed control clockwise to make it slower. But this great! I can finally sew slowly which is really helpful for a beginner. A big thank you!
You’re welcome!
It helped me today too! almost 10 years after the initial video was uploaded.!
That is great to hear! Thanks.
What about if I loosened screw but still no change in stitch length.😢
You need to turn the bolt - not the screw.
Thank you so much for being the greatest teacher, got to thread on my own for the very first time without anyone's help, 😊.

Kevin sir thank you so much for this video. It was so helpful and easy to follow that i don't feel worried to try and fix this issue myself.
My pleasure!
I like how you take your time, especially for us who are learning 😊
Thank you!
How did you ever get that thick thread thru such a tiny needle? My needle eye is so tiny, I can barely get it threaded. Thanks so much. I’m a newbie, so much to learn.
Steady hands and good eye site I guess. LOL
How about 7256?
?
@@kevinsews I have a 7256 Fashionmate and if I could adjust the speed that would be fanstic.
How can I slow down the foot controller on a 7256 Fashion Mate by singer? Can I put a speed controller from the main power plug to the machine. My foot gets very tired and using the foot controller wavers.
@@donaldharris1763 First take the pedal apart like I did in the video and check to see if it had the same knob I showed in the video. After that maybe you can find a pedal that has it.
Can't thank you enough for this help! My new Singer Promise was consigned to the cupboard a few years ago after my first efforts failed dismally, but I recently decided to try again, and use Google to help me which led me here. I'm now producing cute little stuffed puppies in all sorts of fabrics! 😆 Thank you!
I am glad to hear it was helpful.
This is the most in - depth explanation of sewing elastic together like this. Using the different widths makes sense. TYSM for sharing this video with us. 👍😀
You are welcome!
I have some what the opposite problem I want my 4423 to go faster
Time for an industrial machine.
I have been fighting a problem with straight thread on the bottom of the stitch for years! No matter how low I put the top tension, the bottom of the stitch was just straight thread... not pulled up at all. After I turned the yellow screw a about a quarter of a turn back I finally have a decent stitch on both top and bottom. Do you give classes on using sergers? Hahahahaha!
I am glad to hear you fixed it. No, I don't have any classes. ;)
@@kevinsews I had pulled off the throat plate but couldn't see how to adjust the bobbin... My old machine the whole thing came out and there was a little screw that was easy to see and adjust... But my Singer 4452 has been a learning experience. Again, thanks.
@@kevinsews Will you consider one?
Very clear instructions thank you but I am finding it impossible to loosen the two small screws. Why do manufacturers make it so difficult? Any suggestions as to how to loosen the screws?
@@eloundabelle Look at the other comments. Someone had another suggestion. I have put this on my todo list, but is is a long list. I'll get to it eventually.
awesome
Thanks!
The “tension” spiel was the most convoluted, laughably confusing gobbly gook I’ve ever sat through. Redo your explanation of the dials.
I am sorry it was confusing you.

The metal piece that goes to the left of the black bobbin tooth (but screws on the right side) do you know what that part is called?
www.sewingpartsonline.com/products/rotary-hook-plate-assembly-singer-416144001
what setting is your machine on to stitch
Straight stitch set at 3.5 length using a jeans needle.
Nice demonstration but I wish you included also needle positioning. I can not find anywhere information whether needle position is only center, left and right or it is linear / continuous from side to side.
Let me look into it and I will let you know.
How would I know whether to tighten or loosen the bobbin case please? What does the bobbin tension actually do to the thread in the bobbin? I have a sewing machine which is not linking the top and bottom thread together so i'm wondering what the issue would be.
The bobbin tension shows if the top thread is pulled to the middle point of the fabric. If your top thread has loose loops then tighten the bobbin tension. Thing of it as a tug & war between the thread tension and the bobbin tension. The goal is the make it a draw match.

Kevin, you did an amazing video, and your patience and ability to explain are awesome. I have a Singer cg500 which is pretty similar however I see no obvious way to adjust underneath. If you are familiar with the 500 series, could you share tips on the way to adjust underneath? Your blessings are stored in heaven for all those you have helped!
No, I am not familiar with that model.
Lining needs slack!
I addressed this. In this case the clients jacket had excess slake that she wanted removed. I chalk it up to it being produced in one of those fast fashion factories overseas. This is becoming more common on the things people bring in for alterations.
The foot has a hole where you can insert a screw driver to turn the speed adjustment without opening it!
Mine didn’t have one. Maybe some other model pedals do though.
@@kevinsews The pedal is a FC-2902D, which is a pedal of a Singer 4423, purchased in 2024, EU model.
@@EconaelGaming Ah, that explains the difference.
@@EconaelGamingI have this kind of pedal but what do you use to insert in that hole. You need a very thin screwdriver
@@StelutaSabau I used... a very thin screwdriver. One from those cheap "micro precision screwdriver" sets.

I finally received my pattern today. They have made some changes in the packaging. I'll show you in the video. Look for it over the next few days.
Hi, I have this machine and sew fairly heavy stuff at 4.5mm stitch length with it. It is good except that the backstitch seems to be only one length ...2mm, almost the shortest length the machine sews, so it is impossible to reverse into the same holes unless set to 2. Have you found this, or possibly discovered how to make them match?
The only way I have found to do this is slightly lift the presser foot and manually position whatever you are sewing back to align it.
@kevinsews Thanks, will do. Seems so weird. Had my share of machines with reverse and never had that before.
Wonderful! It was so easy even for someone with very limited tecnical skills like me. Now the speed is really under control. Many thanks.
I glad to hear it helped you.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I’m so glad that I googled the speed problem on my 4432 machine and got this video. Thank you!!❤

Thank you for the help! I’ve had my heavy duty singer for almost 2 years now. Finally had the courage to try this. Totally worth it
You’re welcome! Let us know how it works out for you.
This video was so helpful thank you. I bought the Singer HD as a ‘smoother’ more up to date model from my old semi industrial Janome. I was almost at the point of selling on my Singer, so I could buy a slower brand/model with more control. Your video has just made my day here in the UK! Thank you
You’re welcome!
I opened up the pattern today and discovered I was missing a sheet of the pattern. I just ordered the new pattern using the link I posted, so it will delay the sew along a bit. The good news is we will now be using the same pattern number.
This looks like a good project with little costs. Do you know what changes I would need to do for a cross-body bag?
I haven't looked at how long the straps are, but generally simply extending the length will do it.
Thank you.
@@pinkpearl9208 You're welcome!
I had to remove the bottom cover to expose some more areas that needed oiling. Now this machine isn't making the loud low grinding noise.
Mine is not going back and forth like that and hitting the lever. It’s making the same size hole no matter what button size and it is generally not working correctly for any buttonhole style. The only difference i see between mine and yours is that it is not hitting the lever back and forth. Only the back piece hits the lever. After that it does what it wants. What do you think could be the issue?
Capture a video and post it. It is hard to say without seeing exactly what is going on. Post it and send me the link. Capture it all from the setting it up and sewing.
